P2P Bittorent Video Discovery and Playback Application - 2008
Vuze v4.0 Client is an online entertainment destination for long form hi-resolution video content. Vuze is built on top of Azureus, the leading peer-to-peer Bittorrent client.
Over a 14 month period we accomplished 3 major product releases and transformed a complex peer-to-peer Bittorrent client into a simple, easy-to-use content portal and media management application. We focused on three major areas; user engagement, content discovery and advertising. Vuze seamlessly brings together the discovery, download, playback and socializing of hi-resolution video content.
Vuze is an open source Java based application with an embedded web browser, video player and a variety of advanced plug-in components. We created an immersive content portal, enabling merchandizing, programming and personalized content recommendations. We embedded a universal media player to seamlessly playback any video codec. We provided both electronic sell through as well as pre-roll, post-roll and overlay video advertising options. We experimented with social media and content discovery features such as linking to friends, aggregated activity feeds, drag and drop sharing functionality, rating, commenting and friend bandwidth boosting. Lastly, we improved the media download, subscription and library management capabilities.
As the Senior Director of User Experience, I worked on all major new features, consisting of concepting, conducting user testing, outlining requirements, developing the interaction design, directing the visual design and coordinating with engineering on the front-end development efforts. This was both a management and individual contributor role.
